‘Please change our postcode’
1st June 2006
Several villages in South Wales wish to change their post code to obtain cheaper car insurance. The people of Hendy, Fforest and Llanedi have requested that their current postcode, SA4 be changed to SA14.
SA4 is a postcode for an area of Swansea, which the villagers believe is making their premiums increase. The postcode SA14 is for Llanelli, which is the nearest town to the villages, has a lower crime rate.
Postcodes were created for sorting purposes by the Royal Mail and are only normally changed for operational needs. It is now used for calculating many insurance products, and as it stands, the villagers from South Wales are being penalised for theirs.
