Car security - Adding or upgrading the security on your car can reduce your premium as it makes your vehicle harder to steal or can actually warn off thieves all together.
There are plenty of good products on the market that can be installed by a specialist. These are awarded in categories; Thatcham Category 1 being the being the most secure. Unfortunately, items such as steering locks are unlikely to reduce your premium. This is due to the fact that these must be put in place by the driver each time, and can be accidentally left off, whereas an alarm would automatically set.
If you already have an alarm but no immobiliser, don't worry. Engine immobilisers can also be fitted on their own and your alarm can be upgraded to "category one" if it doesn't already meet the Thatcham criteria.
Any security that is added should have correct documentation, as proof will need to be received showing that the correct model has been installed.
Steering locks can act as an excellent deterrent for thieves, and can offer peace-of-mind that your car is extra secure.
Newer cars are constantly ‘raising the bar’ for security measures, many becoming near impossible for thieves to take without having the keys or towing it away!
Our range of insurers will be able to quote and offer discounts for various models of security devices.
